and to run a timber business. This idea became reality, the cutting mill was built and the business soon made good progress. After about 4 years of joint activity, Krause left again and my father took over the business alone. By taking over this wood business alone, my father had put himself under a great burden, but with his great diligence, prudence and thriftiness, success was inevitable and since he had in the meantime called on his sons August, Franz and Louis to help, the business flourished more and more, so that he was later able to take on his eldest son August as a partner. In the meantime, my sisters Rosa and Julie had also grown older, so that they were already able to help out in the household, and when they reached the age of 18, they were already thinking about getting married. Fortune was kind to them both, as they found quite capable, solid men and were thus well provided for." ‐ ‐

The following companies have developed from Philipp Tuchmann's business to the present day:
Holzhandlung Tuchmann und Sohn, Dessau (August),
Hop shop Gebrüder Tuchmann in Nuremberg, (Franz and Louis),
Wood shop Heinrich Tuchmann, Berlin and
Hop shop Philipp Tuchmann in Nuremberg (Max Philipp).

Franz Tuchmann now goes on to tell about his family on his mother's side: "My grandfather Abraham Hellmann also traded in hops and on his death on 7 May 1824 left each of his children about 5,000 gulden, which amount was also the dowry of my mother Gette. My grandfather Abraham Hellmann died of the consequences of this illness after he had contracted a disease in Augsburg as a result of too much heavy lifting and returned home sick. Grandmother Rosette Hellmann, née Mailänder, a native of Dispeck, was a very fine, pretty, religious woman who also had only a sense of domesticity. After her husband's death, she later married Ensel Landecker, with whom, however, she did not lead a happy marriage, and so it happened that she took on a very quiet character and was often only put in a better mood by my father's friendly, cheerful and benevolent nature. She probably died of a chest disease and from grief over her second husband, who was not averse to drink. The marriage of my grandfather Abraham Hellmann produced 3 children: My Mother Gette, Wolf, born 8 October 1821 and Louis (Lazarus) born 6 December 1823. Wolf Hellmann died on 2 July 1843, Louis Hellmann, after spending a few years in America, became a company clerk. America, Louis Hellmann ran a company business with my father under the name of Tuchmann & Cie. Louis Hellmann married a Miss Johanna Cohn from Dessau in 1858; he died on 30 October 1865." ‐ ‐
